By Daniel Wetzel
With their series State 1–4, Rimini Protokoll set out to explore fields outside of what can be organized and controlled by the nation-state today. Rimini Protokoll look back at the essence of the powers whose separation was once intended to form the essential mechanism for monitoring state structures. To what extent are these powers still able to regulate the decisive impetuses for change faced by societies?
Dreaming Collectives. Tapping Sheep / Träumende Kollektive. Tastende Schafe (State 3)
Welcome to the year year 2048. Humanity is finally being managed digitally from now on. There is no violence anymore. For that IRIS takes over control over all our weaponry. There are no traffic accidents anymore because IRIS controls it. Democratic participation happens through digital feedback. What you click is what you vote for. IRIS measures the outcome. Democracy has become liquid and continues to be theatre – every show a laboratory session with 120 spectators in a cloud. Their decisions turn into sound in the end. Their data have turned into clouds.
From a starting point in Athens where democracy just lately seemed to fail, Daniel Wetzel and Ioanna Valsamidou explore potentials and dangers of the digitalisation for the processes of democracy.
